The Lesson of Cezanne :: 1988
This black and white poster was inspired by a quote in 'Paul Rand: A Designer's Art'. While at Connecticut College in 1988 I used it for an example for my students. The lesson of Cezanne: 'Treat nature by means of the cylinder, the sphere, and the cone, everything brought into proper perspective, so that each side of an object or a plane is directed towards a central point'. Rand states: 'A simple lesson in Renaissance perspective was construed to mean that geometric simplicity would now play an important role in the way we perceive modern painting'. (pg. 231)
