Yale/Brissago, Wolfgang Weingart, July 6 – July 9, 1981

I first met Wolfgang Weingart in the summer of 1981 in Brissago, Switzerland. He was the typography teacher that year along with graphic designers Armin Hofmann, Paul Rand, Herbert Matter, and the coordinator from Yale University Philip Burton. My first critique with WW he stated my designs were “brutal”. However, during the ensuing week I made significant progress and completed the project with some success. The Visible Language typographic exercise was unique and very informative. We progressed from very simple designs to more complex experiments. We have kept in contact these many years (RISD, ASU, University of Cincinnati) and I would love to make a new project or book with him in the future. Congratulations WW on your successful exhibition in Zurich and wonderful career!
